Arranging a funeral

Funeral candle with rose.

Funerals & Celebration of Life

What is a funeral celebrant?

A funeral celebrant is a qualified officiant who will help plan, host and deliver the funeral or celebration of life for your loved one.

As well as conducting the ceremony, a celebrant will be part of the whole funeral process. Helping to choose music, poems and writing the eulogy.

I will work with you to create a meaningful service that celebrates a person's life and that allows you to say goodbye.

What will I do?

A funeral celebrant role includes:

  • helping you to plan and arrange the funeral, including the order of service and music
  • writing a Eulogy
  • hosting and officiating the funeral on the day
  • offering the family support throughout the ceremony

How will we work together?

Arranging a funeral and finding the right words to say goodbye to a loved one can be one of the most difficult challenges in life. I will guide you through this emotional process and help honour your loved one.

Service Description and Fees

Funeral/Celebration of Life Fees start from £230 and include:

  • an online, phone or face to face meeting
  • advice on content, music and ceremony structure
  • a unique, bespoke ceremony
  • a seamless service with your funeral director
  • on the day, your service, led by me, in a style that is both professional yet comforting and entirely fitting for the person that has died.

Additional charges may apply for travel and accommodation when required, as well as for longer services. A standard service at a crematorium is 30 minutes.

Alternatives to a traditional funeral

Cremations account for almost 80% of funerals in the UK, but since the pandemic, there has been a significant rise in the number of direct cremations. According to the 2023 SunLife Cost of Dying Report, direct cremations jumped from 3% in 2019 to 18% in 2022.  This is a huge increase.

There is no surprise to learn that this shift was in part due to the pandemic - but it also represents other factors. A traditional funeral can be expensive. Grieving families often look for the most environmentally friendly solution.

But most interestingly of all (for me, at least!) is the move towards 'a celebration of life' or 'memorial' ceremony. This offers a grieving family the chance to build a totally bespoke ceremony - in a location and at a time of their choice. This might be in your loved one's garden or on their favourite beach.

If this is something that you are considering, I would love to talk with you. Together we can create a unique commemoration for your loved one.

  • Celebration of Life Ceremony | Memorial - fees start from £230.
  • Children centred memorial ceremony - offering a safe space for children and young people to grieve and share memories - from £230
  • Ashes Scattering & Internment - from £150

And lastly...baby and child funerals

This section of my website is intentionally brief.

If you are grieving the loss of a child, I am so deeply sorry.  It would be a privilege and an honour for me to help you create a ceremony.
